All on 4 and 6 Dental Implant Treatments
Oral and dental healths are some of the factors that greatly affect an individual's quality of life. As a result, dentists have started to develop and plan treatment methods that will increase patient satisfaction.
Dental implants have become the most popular procedure in patients with tooth loss. Although classical dental implant treatment has been used successfully in most patients for years, it was a much longer and more costly option for patients who had no teeth or were in danger of being completely edentulous soon. In the last 10 years, dental implant techniques called All on 4 and All on 6 have been developed in addition to classical implant methods. These techniques began to be widely preferred in a short time as they are fast and effective treatment methods that are easily applied even in patients with no teeth.
What Are the All on 4/6 Dental Implants?
All on 4/6 implant treatments are performed in order to prevent patients who have no teeth from undergoing advanced surgical treatment due to sinus lift, bone addition, or bone deficiency. This procedure provides patients with the opportunity to make fixed prostheses on the same day and is a quite advantageous method in terms of both comfort and time. After the All on 4/6 implant procedure is done, patients can start eating. However, they should be careful about what they eat. They should avoid consuming hard and crusty foods while using the temporary prosthesis for 3 months after the procedure. After the fusion of the bones with the implants, there is no restriction on food at all.
How Do All on 4/6 Dental Implants Work?
Patients undergo both clinical and radiological examinations before the All on 4/6 implant procedures. After the measurements are made with computerized tomography and it is decided whether they are suitable for the procedure, the treatment process is planned and the process is started.
In the All on 4 implant method, a total of 4 screws are placed; 2 in the anterior part of the jawbone where the bone thickens, and 2 in the back part. In the All on 6 method, which is applied to both the lower jaw and the upper jaw; the implants in the front have an angle of 90 degrees, and the ones in the back have an angle of 45 degrees.
In the All-on method, temporary prostheses are placed in the same session after the screws are placed in the jaw. Temporary prostheses are used for an average of 3 months. Thus, the patient doesn’t experience edentation at all. This is a great advantage over conventional implant methods. The permanent dentures are placed on the implant roots at the end of this period.
Are All on 4/6 Dental Implants Suitable for Everyone?
These methods are not suitable for everyone. All on 4 and 6 dental implants are suitable for patients who don’t have a chronic disease and who have sufficient bone volume. Even if the patient is completely edentulous, All on dental implants can be safely applied if s/he has sufficient bone structure in his/her jaw. Anyone over the age of 18 who meets these conditions can have All-on implant treatment. This method can be applied easily and successfully even in 80-year-old patients.
